The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) is building a network that could not only improve electrical service across China but also could become the country’s next broadband service provider. The SGCC is utilizing fiber optics, a choice that will cost them an estimated $2 billion.
However, fiber also provides more bandwidth than electrical grids need, leaving the possibility open for the SGCC to use it for fixed line Internet services.
