Big data: ‘a lot of dirt, not much gold’

Companies tend to store all of their customer data in hopes that it will be of use to them some day. In our data driven economy, it is hoped and even assumed that all of this information will eventually prove to have great value. In fact, having too much stored data can work against a company, ans they can end up unable to effectively mine out the information they actually need.
