Here, we explore the progress and issues of the Cloud Computing strategy at the Department of Defense. Chief among these issues is the physical location of data storage, always an issue as networks are upgraded and storage limits increased. Modernization of core data centers including failure, backup, archiving, and COOP, all managed by DISA are key components of this process. One ongoing concern regarding data is the management of physical location as servers and networks change and new storage requirements go into effect. There are also some possible solutions to this problem by detailing recent breakthroughs by the Navy in terms of cloud computing and virtualization.
