IP Transition Continues to be Controversial

Competitive Local Exchange Carriers, such as Flatel & Smoke Signals, are pushing for a transition to IP based networks in the telecom world. These companies, who operate inside and alongside a main service, like AT&T, or Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier, would the IP Interconnection issue solved. The debate is still on, however, as to whether or not VOIP is actually telecommunications, or an information service. This would affect taxes, right of way, and much more.
