New statistics reveal that smartphone ownership is on the rise. In the United States, smartphone ownership among adults has increased to 85%, from 45%. Across devices, the number of owners above age 30 approximates that of young adults aged 16-29. Apple and Google were able to increase their market share with respect to operating system, but Apple was the only company able to increase its market share for devices. While spending in other areas decreased, spending on apps and other phone-related expenditures increased since 2007.
